Irish Athys

Thus far in the project, two independent Irish Athy families have been found.  One is presumably that of the Galway family, represented by the Capt George Cluster.  Both families are apparently now extinct in Ireland, and we can only trace Athys who emigrated from Ireland and now live in other countries.

The profile of the Capt George Cluster has not been found directly in another Athy or in another Irish person with a different surname.  The Y haplogroup for this family is Haplogroup G2a, which is quite rare in Ireland.

Two Athy participants with roots in County Mayo, Ireland have matching Y profiles.  The family of one of these participants (20247) emigrated to the U.S. in the mid-1800s.  The family of the other participant (101695) emigrated to England in the early 1900s, and may have been the last Athys in Ireland at that time.  The haplogroup for this family is Haplogroup R1b.
